Oh, I really enjoyed this story. It makes sense that there was more time between the ill-fated train robbery and visiting Sheriff Trevors. Heyes is a planner and he would have done so. It may have been Kid Curry who started it, but Heyes seemed much more like he wanted the amnesty.

THE BOY WHO USED TO BE ME

A good introspective look into Heyes thinking. The possible thought process that lead to that decision. It showed the Kids loyalty and respect for Heyes even in this life changing decision.

I enjoyed this a lot.  Its an interesting take on how the boys might have reached the decision to apply for amnesty.  Heyes was the more forward thinking of the two, so its logical he would be the one to reflect on the circumstances that had brought them to where they were, and where their “careers” would eventually lead to, while Kid was more of an in-the-moment kind of guy who just dealt with ‘what is’ more than ‘what might be’. Thanks.

What a clever idea for a story! I haven't seen their decision-making process addressed before. Clearly a lot of contemplative thought went into Heyes's decision. It was so deep and yet it was based on simple things and lovely memories. I also enjoyed sentences like: "Heyes did not acknowledge his presence, although Curry knew he wasn’t unaware of it." Things like this say so much about the man and the relationship with his friend! I really enjoyed this!
